Sharing this curious depiction of Mary Magdalene garbed in the Dominican habit. Albeit admittedly anachronistic, the artist, Cristóbal Torres Iglesias, OP, wanted to depict the saint in this manner to emphasize her being co-patroness of the Order of Preachers, along with Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The great Dominican theologian and Doctor of the Church, Saint Thomas Aquinas, praised her as the Apostola Apostolorum or "Apostle to the Apostles" in view of the fact that she was the first to be commissioned by the Risen Lord to proclaim the Good News of the Resurrection. Pope Francis raised her memorial to the rank of feast on 10 July 2016 during the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, coincidentally, while the Order was celebrating its 800th Year Jubilee. May her life inspire us to continuing conversion and spur us in our humble proclamation of the Good News despite our unworthiness.
